The things that you choose to focus on, become your reality!

Most people (Even those who are ‘doing it right’ or avoiding the unsustainable fads diets), are too busy spending their time and energy on obsessing over what they can’t have, or what they “have” to say no to, or the feeling of being deprived in order to reach their goal.

Here’s the thing though – You cannot FEEL deprived until you first THINK you’re deprived.

The language of your conscious mind is your words and your thoughts, while the language of your subconscious mind is what/how you feel.

Your language programs your feelings.

Make sense?

The things that you choose to focus on – Becomes your reality.

Nobody else is making you set goals, or do the work. This is your choice.

So instead of focusing on what you’re “missing out” on, try to focus on what you’re gaining:

  • A healthier body
  • A leaner body
  • More self-confidence
  • Self-discipline
  • Energy
  • Empowering yourself to reverse self-limiting beliefs and self-sabotaging choices
  • Looking and feeling as good as you think you should

This list can go on and on.

When you choose to focus on the things that you’re gaining, that becomes your reality!

Why most “Diets” fail, and why so many people have a hard time achieving and/or maintaining their results.

How many times are you going to “diet” – only to find yourself returning to said “diet” because you couldn’t stick with it?

Yo-yo dieting is quite real, and a very common struggle for many women who come to me for help. Mainly because, they have never learned HOW to maintain their lifestyle.

When you take on a goal of fat loss and then you have reached your goal, what do you do then? Do you have a plan? What are you going to do?

It’s really easy to just go back onto auto-pilot and return to what you have done prior, and what you are familiar with. However, this behavior,  is just going to lead you right back to where you started, and feeling the need to diet again! It’s not called yo-yo dieting for no reason. And it’s not something that you want to continue doing.

Having a goal, and working towards it is a fairly simple process. The application of it is not always easy though, because many you may be missing the know-how and the support that is likely the missing link to why you haven’t been able to reach your goals and maintain them on your own in your past efforts.

It is much easier to navigate when you have a structured plan to get you there.  Little by little, those small action steps that you take, day by day, start to add up to a lot of steps that will take you from Point A (where you are now) to Point B (your goal).

Statistics show that 95% of people who lose weight don’t keep it off.

True success would be if you followed a method that you could keep doing, and keep the weight off for good.

If you are part of the 95% of the population that has dieted, it’s likely that you’ll slowly start adding back foods, behaviors and habits that caused you to feel like you needed to “diet” in the first place, especially if your methodology was not sustainable which in turn also makes it not maintainable.

It is hard work getting to your goals, but it’s even harder learning to maintain those goals once you get there. So while dieting, in general, does have a goal, it’s really hard for people to see the value in learning the skills needed to maintain their lifestyle.

Diet’s do not teach you those skills. You have to be able to change your mindset & behaviors around the process itself.

Motivation

 

Let’s have the “MOTIVATION” conversation shall we?

I often hear from my clients:

“I am struggling with motivation to exercise or prepare my meals.”

Or

“I’m bored with my workouts.”

Or

“I just don’t feel like it.”

How many times have you caught yourself saying or thinking these same things?

We tend to think that feeling motivated is what gets us to our goals

But feelings, such as motivation, come and go.

If you want to see change, you have to do the things, and take the action steps even when you don’t feel like it. Especially when you don’t’ feel like it!

Taking action creates the motivation to keep you going.

If you are feeling motivated, go with it. Ride that wave and enjoy it!

But when it fades (and it will), Take action anyway. By doing so, you will create your own motivation instead of looking to outside sources to fill that gap.

The Importance of Strength Training for Women

Weight training is an important part of any exercise program. In this post I will be focusing on the benefits that weight training holds for women.

Many of the common issues that women face can be addressed though lifting weights: Body fat, stress, weakness, insomnia, osteoporosis, poor balance, etc.

Before you embark on a weight training program it is important to get your doctors approval and speak with a certified personal trainer to learn proper form and technique. Also to discuss any injuries or other medical issues you may have because certain exercises may not be appropriate for you. Your trainer would be able to offer you other options.

You really don’t need a lot of fancy equipment or expensive gym memberships to train with weights. All you really need are a couple pair of hand weights to get you started. It will most likely take you a couple times to realize what weight you should be using for each exercise, but you want to make sure that the weight is heavy enough and that it is not too easy. The object is to lift weights that are heavy enough to build muscle, which in turn will speed up your metabolism and burn more fat.

Weight training is a weight bearing activity which with consistency over time (at least 6 months) you will begin to increase your bone density which helps to prevent osteoporosis.

Many women report that after weight training they get a better night sleep. I know I sleep better on the days that I workout.

It can also be a great stress reliever taking your mind off other things while you are focusing on breathing, proper form, and technique.

I have also seen the confidence level in many of my women clients improve immensely, even after just a couple weeks of weight training three times a week.
